Tristan Claus

Tristan Claus holds a bachelor’s degree in Architecture (KU Leuven, 2016) and a master’s degree in Urban Design and Spatial Planning (KU Leuven, 2018). He has worked as an ESPON national contact point (2019-2021) and as a researcher on the demolition of vacant farm buildings (Boer Ruimt Veld, 2019-2021). In 2021, Tristan started PhD research on the articulation of individual project needs to planning legislation in Flanders. The Flemish government frequently passes decrees that cater to specific groups of citizens, undermining its own long-term planning policy ambitions. Tristan’s research aims to expose this underlying decision-making process through in-depth interviews with interest groups and decisive actors, such as ministers, members of cabinet, members of parliament, and civil servants.

Research:

  • Interest group politics
  • Planning instruments and legislation
